New York Times Editorial: Recount an "Empty Gesture" if Vote Machines Can be Accessed by Vote Machine Companies

The New York Times, vaguely waking up, noted in an editorial today that every vote should be counted, and that recounts are an "empty gesture" if, as has happened in Ohio, the voting machine mechanics are allowed access to the machines after the election and prior to the recount. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/20/opinion/20mon1.html?oref=login&n=Top%2fOpinion%2fEditorials
