Update on Ohio Recount

UPDATE ON THE OHIO RECOUNT
WHAT YOU CAN DO
WHERE TO GO TO KEEP UP WITH THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS (besides this list)

Next week, the Ohio Recount gets underway. Across the country, Greens,
Democrats, Libertarians, Republicans and Independents have come together to
support this historic effort. Thanks to all of you for generously
offering your time, energy and funds to aid in the Ohio Recount.

UPDATE
At this time, regional coordinating staff are in place in Ohio, and are
putting into place coordinators for each of Ohio's 88 counties. County
recounts will begin on different days, either December 14, 15 or 16.
Volunteer training has begun and will continue throughout the recount.

Many groups are planning protest activities all across the country for
December 13th, when the Ohio Electors meet to cast ballots as part of the
Electoral College process. Given that it was an unfair initial voting process
which resulted in a vote total that is being disputed and recounted, how can
the Electors cast their ballots for George Bush — or any candidate — until the
recount is completed?

WHAT YOU CAN DO
At this time, we expect to be able to meet our volunteer needs with people in
Ohio and nearby states, where volunteers can drive in. For those farther
away, there is still a critical role to play.

CURRENTLY, CALLS ARE GOING OUT TO VOLUNTEERS IN PENNSYLVANIA, MICHIGAN,
WISCONSIN, ILLINOIS AND WEST VIRGINIA. AND INDIANA - WE DON'T HAVE A STATE
COORDINATOR OR POINT OF CONTACT THERE, YET, SO IF SOMEONE IN INDIANA IS
READING THIS AND WANTS TO STEP FORWARD, PLEASE WRITE ME OFF-LIST!

If you live farther away and want to travel to Ohio, you are welcome to come,
but we encourage you to travel by car, as we don't have the means to provide
extra transportation in Ohio. We are still looking for observers in a few
counties; volunteers are also being sought for door-to-door canvassing to
gather statements from people who encountered problems when trying to vote, or
who learned their votes were not counted. IF YOU DECIDE TO TRAVEL TO OHIO,
BUT HAVEN'T HEARD FROM SOMEONE IN YOUR STATE, YET, FEEL FREE TO CONTATC ME
OFF-LIST.

For those NOT going to Ohio, please lend your effort to these activities:

1 - Keep up with latest news Ohio recount:

www.nov3.us

2 - Help Raise public awareness.

3 - Get this issue infront of the media - keep it there!

4 - Put pressure on your representatives in Congress to support an
investigation itno the 2004 election and a major overhuauil of our
elections system.

SOME IMPORTANT DATES

-December 10-13: local actions around the country called by No Stolen
Elections! to urge Electoral College electors meeting in state capitols on
December 13th to use the vote casting process to delay the vote for any
Presidential candidate until there are comprehensive recounts and voting
violation investigations;

-Now until January 6: grassroots campaign to urge Congresspeople and Senators
to object to the certification of all electoral votes when in joint session on
January 6; this would create a space for discussion of major electoral
problems, including those in Ohio, and actions necessary to address them.
